Livestock Acclimation
Coral Acclimation
- Turn off the lights on the aquarium or the quarantine tank. Float the sealed bags in the aquarium or quarantine tank for 20-30 minutes to equalize temperature.
- Place the corals into a container with the bag water for dipping. Multiple corals can be placed into the same container for dipping as long as they don't touch each other. We recommend Revive for a dipping solution. Do not use freshwater or iodine-based dips!
- Place the corals into your display or quarantine tank and enjoy your newly acquired pieces. We recommend that you place new corals low in the tank at first and leave the lights off on the display or quarantine tank overnight, then run them as normal the next day.
- Enjoy your new corals!
Fish and Invertebrate Acclimation
- Turn off the lights on the aquarium or the quarantine tank before unpacking the animals. We prefer to have the room lights dimmed before opening the shipping box to prevent shocking the animals with bright lighting.
- Float the UNOPENED bag in the aquarium or quarantine tank for 20-30 minutes to equalize temperature.
- Open the bag and add a few drops of SeaChem Prime into the bag to detoxify ammonia. Wait 5 minutes to allow the Prime to mix.
- Carefully pour off (discard) most of the bag water making sure there is enough water left in the bag to cover the animal plus an inch or two. If you pinch the bag as you pour this will help prevent dumping the animal out of the bag. Discard the poured off bag water.
- Add enough aquarium water to the bag to double the water volume in the bag. Wait 15 minutes.
- Repeat steps 4 & 5 at least once more.
- Pour off as much water as possible (there should just be a few drops in the bag left), and with no water remaining in the bag “pour” the animal into the aquarium or quarantine tank away from your usual feeding area, preferably towards the rocks so the animal can quickly go hide and feel safe. Discard all the bag water.
- Leave the lights off on the aquarium or quarantine tank overnight, and run them as normal the next day.
Fish and Invertebrate Drip Acclimation
- Turn off the lights on the aquarium or the quarantine tank before unpacking the animals. Make sure the room lights are also dim before you open the shipping box.
- Float the UNOPENED bag in the aquarium or quarantine tank for 20-30 minutes to equalize temperature.
- Open the bag and add a few drops of SeaChem Prime into the bag to detoxify ammonia. Wait 5 minutes to allow the Prime to mix.
- Empty and rinse the styrofoam shipping box your animals arrived in. Tilt the styrofoam box a little bit so the water pools on one side so there is more room for the fish to swim in. Carefully pour the animals into the styrofoam box with just enough water to cover them. If the animals are compatible they can all be added to the styrofoam box. Hook up your drip acclimator to a fast drip, and loosely replace the styrofoam lid to help keep the heat in and prevent the animals from jumping out. Let it fast drip for 30 minutes.
- Pour off as much water as possible so there is just enough water that the animals can remain upright. Use a net or container to catch each animal and place them into the aquarium or quarantine tank away from your usual feeding area, preferably towards the rocks so the animals can quickly go hide and feel safe. Discard all the water from the styrofoam container.
- Leave the lights off on the aquarium or quarantine tank overnight, and run them as normal the next day.
